Course Map

1st

Most players will drive straight for the opening between the two bunkers short of the green, it is a 215 metre carry over the fairway bunkers leaving a relatively simple uphill pitch. A great opportunity to begin with a birdie.

2nd

A testing par three with a wide, yet shallow putting surface separated into left and right by a tier. Distance control and accuracy is paramount to ensure a putt for birdie, whilst anything short or long will require a deft touch to save par.

3rd

A challenging dogleg right par four where a decision needs to be made to take the hole on or play safe from the tee leaving a longer second to a large challenging putting surface. Longer hitters will be able to drive across the corner to a wide expanse of fairway leaving an easier wedge shot to the green. With the putting surface 33 metres long playing the right tee shot will determine your chances of scoring well on this hole.

4th

The longest hole at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club. This 525 metre par five requires accuracy from the tee to find the fairway. The second shot must either be layed up short of the water that juts out into the fairway 115 metres from the green or if taking on the second shot, one struck well to carry the water and bunkers protecting the front and right side of the putting surface. Anything long will find its way into the water behind the green.

5th

The signature hole at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club. A long par 3 across water, with bunkers to the left and water to the right. The front half of the green does provide a generous landing area although putting from the wrong side will be a challenge.

6th

A hybrid or fairway wood from the tee will find the widest part of the fairway over the large fairway bunker dominating the view from the tee, leaving a short iron into a putting surface the falls significantly from left to right.

7th

A par five for the members, playing as a long par four for the tournament. The fairway feeds towards the right side from the tee leaving a mid-iron into the green. For the longer hitters, a well struck tee shot over the left hand mound will get a kick forwards leaving a much shorter second than anything short or to the right of it. Anything missing the fairway right is at risk of running into the trees leading to a lay up short of the cross bunker in front of the green.

8th

A dogleg left par four with trouble to the right from the tee. A well struck long iron or hybrid from the tee to the right half of the fairway, will leave anything from a wedge to an eight iron second shot depending on the pin location on this deep green.

9th

A multitude of options await the players on this short par four to end the front 9. Reachable from the tee for the longer players, a potential eagle opportunity will encourage an aggressive play from some. A large tier separates the front two thirds of the green from the rear, so distance control is paramount when the pin position goes back. With the green being well bunkered this hole is not a simple as it may seem.

10th

Position, position, position. A long iron or fairway wood from the tee will leave you with a short iron into this shallow but wide green. With the left half of the green protected by a large bunker, hitting the fairway is vital here.

11th

The shortest of our par threes, but by no means the easiest. With a green sloping severely from left to right positioning of your tee shot below the hole is a must if you want to walk of this hole with a par or better.

12th

A new tee is in play for the tournament with players facing a 265 metre carry over water if they choose to play down the right-hand side shortening the second shot. Keeping to the left lessens the carry but lengthens the second shot whilst leaving the best angle of approach to the green. With bunkering left and right accuracy is key on the approach to the green.

13th

The fairway feeds off to both the left and right for most players here, with the right-hand side offering the best angle into the green. If your second shot strays into the wrong portion of the putting surface walking away with two putts can be very pleasing.

14th

With a variety of tees being in use here the hole will be reachable when the forward tee is in play. A tee shot played down the centre line or to the right half of the fairway will give the best approach to the green. Anything long left of the green will risk going into the water. The putting surface has several subtle breaks to it which can be easily misjudged.

15th

A mid length par three with a large putting surface awaits a well struck tee shot. The green has a back portion that requires a very well struck shot to find and hold when the pin is back. It can play like to completely different holes when comparing front to back pin positions.

16th

This par five with water running along the left hand side and trees to the right. The second shot if going for the green is best played from the left and is just enough uphill to require a little more club than you might think. Anything missed short or to the right will roll away from the putting surface leaving an awkward pitch that will mostly want to run away from you once it gets on the putting surface. A great birdie chance before the final two holes.

17th

Accuracy again from the tee is required here. A well-played tee shot will leave a wedge or short iron into a challenging putting surface that is quite large. Anything missed long or right will likely find a watery end, with anything pitching in the first third of the green likely feeding back to the front edge. A birdie here would be a bonus.

18th

A dogleg right par four where you can bite off as much as you dare. The safe play is a fairway wood at the tree on the corner leaving a short to mid iron into the final green. Take note of the pin location here as this green can be tricky if you are above the hole. Par will be welcomed by many here.
